THE NEW owners of a Barry nursing home have said they hope to ‘continue its legacy’ after it was sold after 33 years.

The College Fields Nursing Home, on College Fields Close, is a Grade II listed building with space for 68 residents.

The home was previously owned and run by husband-and-wife team, Mike and Rachel Kemp.

Mr and Mrs Kemp both have experience in the sector - with Mr Kemp is a prominent figure in Care Forum Wales, and Mrs Kemp is the director of nursing for the home and formerly a matron for 25 years.

They bought the site in the 1980s and converted the former student accommodation block into a nursing home.

The home was sold for an undisclosed price by specialist business property advisers, Christie & Co, to regional operators Jacob and Beena George.

Mr and Mrs Kemp said: “After owning the home for 33 years, we decided that it was time to retire, and so instructed Christie & Co to sell it for us.

“We’re really pleased to be passing it over to such experienced operators as Jacob and Beena who we’re sure will ensure continuity of care and really look after the staff and residents that we’ve had the pleasure of working with and for all these years.”

The new owners said: “It is such a pleasure to add this wonderful specialist nursing home to our portfolio, enabling us to have a resourceful pool for many specialities in the Cardiff and the Vale locality.

“We are confident that we can continue the legacy that Rachel and Mike have passed over to us, and we will be only too keen to enhance people’s positive experiences and to continue the great relationship with our residents, families, staff, and stakeholders.”
