A MAKEOVER for the outside play area at Ysgol Maes Dyfan in Barry was recently the lesson of the day for a group of water workers.
Staff from Kelda's Cardiff team, the company which manages wastewater services in south Wales on behalf of Welsh Water, volunteered to spruce up the junior play area with a lick of paint.
Pupils from the school, which caters for students with sensory impairment and learning difficulties, combined their artistic talents with the 13-strong Kelda team.
Joanna Hobbs, Kelda communications adviser said: "The team were surprised that there were so many pupils huddled around Kelda catchment manager Ian Parry wanting to help - especially when it came to the muddy job of preparing the flower beds.
"But one of the children let slip that they were in fact digging for buried treasure!
"The whole team from Kelda said it was an extremely rewarding and enjoyable afternoon, as well as being a fantastic team-building experience.
"The children's enthusiasm and enjoyment of the tasks proved a real inspiration to the team," she added.
Sian Davey, a teacher at Ysgol Maes Dyfan added: "It really was a community afternoon, and we can't pass on enough thanks to the willing band of volunteers for what they helped us achieve."
