THE BIG beach build is returning to Barry Island.

The fun free family sandcastle building contest is returning to Whitmore Bay, on Barry Island, on Saturday August 13.

Here’s what you need to know about the Big Beach Build 2022…

When is it?

The competition will be between 12pm and 4pm on Saturday, August 13. Winners will be announced at 5pm.

Winners must sign in with Beach Academy on the beach anytime from 11am.

Beach Academy will be near the beach huts with access to the beach at slips four and five.

Barry And District News:

How many people can be in each team?

Teams taking part can have up to six people, who must register (for free) to take part in the competition.

All teams must have a name and be registered with Beach Academy; only teams displaying a ‘competition flag’ on their sandcastle can enter to win prizes.

Adult only teams are not allowed; there must be at least one child under the age of 16 taking part. All children must be supervised by an adult.

People who want to build, but not compete, are welcome and do not need to register; if they change their mind they can get a competition flag from the Beach Academy desk.

Barry And District News:

Will building equipment be provided?

No, the team must bring building equipment, accessories and decoration.

Entries must be recognisable as a “castle” – they can be any size but must be made entirely from sand.

What else is happening on August 13?

Beach Academy will also be running some fun beach challenges next to the Beach Academy tent, finishing at 4pm.

  • Castle Bucket Tower - How high can you stack it?
  • Beach Ball Golf - Can you get a hole in one?
