BARRY ISLAND was taken over with food, fun and festivities over the weekend.

Thousands of people flocked to Barry Island for the two-day Festival of Food which hosted an array of food and drink traders and craft stalls, along with live music on a Bro Radio stage.

Barry And District News:

Numerous independent and local traders got involved with the festival, including Barry Island Spirits Co which had a stall serving up award-winning Barry Island gin and other brews.

Tim Whalley – who co-owns Barry Island Spirits Co and Craft Republic with his wife Claire – said:

“It’s been great; yesterday [Saturday] was crazy with the weather but people still came out.”

There were plenty of other options - for people wanting a tipple, including Hensol Gin Distillery, Tomos & Lilford Brewery, and Cardiff Distillery.

Despite rain on Saturday (June 25) people still visited, with flocks of food fans also joining the festivities on Sunday (June 26).

The Western promenade and Eastern shelters were taken over with a diverse mix of food - from tacos, burgers and nuts to churros, gelato, Welsh cakes, and more.

On Sunday (June 26) a wood fired pizza van sold out of food.

Plus there were queues at many of the food venues - including for a hog roast by Hogi Hogi Hogi.

Plus between the food and bar areas was an area packed with stalls offering a range of crafts and goods.

Although people didn't stop rain or wind stop them from visiting, not everything went to plan. Local band The 8:48 were lined up to perform at the food festival, but were unable to play due to weather conditions.

But the up-and-coming musicians are now preparing to release their first single.
