A LITTLE girl from Dinas Powys will be taking part in the Dance World Cup.

10-year-old Paignton Gardiner has always loved dancing and – in February – joined Liberty Dance Company in Dinas Powys and became a member of their competition squad.

“Paignton lives and breathes dance,” said her mother, Kim Owen.

“When she joined in February applications for the Dance World Cup had already been submitted.

“All dance schools can only submit a certain number of dancers, but – as another student dropped out – she has now qualified to compete using her space.”

The Dance World Cup world finals will be in San Sebastian in Spain from June 24 to July 2.

The event – which welcomes all dance genres – will have thousands of competitors take part from countries all over the world, including those from Liberty Dance Company.

While others from the company have spent months raising funds and gaining sponsors, Paignton – who attends Dinas Powys Primary School – has just a few weeks to raise money to cover costs.

Sponsors – who will have their names featured on her Welsh squad uniform – will contribute towards costs for the championships, including hotel, flights, insurance, and costumes.

“We are hoping for some sponsorship from Welsh businesses to help Paignton achieve her dream,” said Ms Owen.

“She is extremely excited about the upcoming competition and cannot wait to share the experience with other children who enjoy dance as much as her.

“She’s very grateful to everyone who has supported her so far and has been busy making thank you cards for everyone.”
