A BARRY DJ – who has been busy performing around the world – is returning to South Wales.

Al Gray, from Barry, has always loved disco and house music; he always knew he wanted to travel but didn’t anticipate how far his adventures would take him.

From performing in London, to Colombia – including a mansion party – Al Gray then headed to Australia where he performed at bush parties, island parties, and more. He created his own brand: Disco Exotic.

Barry And District News:

His favourite destination (so far) was San Andrés – a coral island in the Caribbean Sea which belongs to Colombia despite being geographically closer to Jamaica.

“It has the clearest water I’ve ever seen,” said Al Gray.

“You could see a stingray in the water from 20 metres away.”

The musician also enjoyed Australia – including a gig at all The Court in Perth, an inclusive LGBTQ+ venue which has also hosted DJ legend Carl Cox, which Al Gray said was “pretty special”.

When asked if he’d expected his DJing to take him so far, he replied “absolutely not” adding:

“I always wanted to travel, but this is beyond my wildest imagination.”

Barry And District News:

Al Gray is now back in Europe and will return to South Wales – for the first time in three years – for a gig at Carpe Noctem in Cardiff.

The show – headlined by Earl Jeffers from Barry and featuring Viewpoints (Gethin Herbert from Cardiff) – will be from 10pm to 4am on Friday, June 3.

Barry And District News:

“Earl is very successful and has been heard all over the world,” said Al Gray.

“Viewpoints is Gethin Herbert from Cardiff who is doing very well locally.

“I have mixed feelings [about my return] – I’m a bit apprehensive but mostly excited; I never thought I’d play Cardiff.

“Welsh people are always up for a laugh and it’s a big thing [to be a Welsh performer] because there’s not too many of us, so it should be special.”

He added that – if this gig is a success – he hopes to line up more South Wales shows with other big names.
