A CHARITY football match was hosted in memory of two Barry men.

The match – which took place at Maslin Park on Barry Island on May 1 – was in memory of Dean Holland and Benjamin Sydenham who died during the Covid pandemic.

Several people were involved in organising the event, balancing their work and family life with planning the event.

This included: Andrew Hefferman; Matthw Hobbs; Wayne Hopkins; Stephen Sydenham; Nicky Stokes.

Those involved organised a raffle, booked the hospitality venue and music for the post-match party, and organised ticket sales.

The event was deemed a huge success with hundreds watching the teams battle it out on Maslin Park’s pitch – resulting in a 4-4 draw.

The post-match party, at Barry Island Conservative Club, was at full capacity.

This charity event raised nearly £6,500 which will be split equally between Mind’s Vale branch and Marie Curie.

Mr Hefferman, who helped organise, said he hopes that this can become an annual event and hopes to pursue a larger pitch with more entertainment for youngsters. This will enable more people to attend, raising more money for charity.
