THE manager of a home care agency based in Barry has been awarded for her hard work.

The Accolades, which are run by Social Care Wales, are awards that recognise, celebrate, and share excellent social care, early years and childcare work in Wales.

This year saw more than 70 entries and nominations from across Wales.

Keri Llewellyn, manager of All Care (South Wales) Ltd, which is based in Barry and serves the Vale of Glamorgan, won the ‘WeCare Wales’ award.

She was nominated for her commitment to improving the lives of older people and vulnerable citizens in the community.

Along with her role as a home care manager, Keri set up Care Communities Acting Together (CCAT) to help bring people together so they can socialise and meet new people.

She has organised Christmas dinners, pantomimes, afternoon teas and ‘race days’, without being given additional funding.

Ms Llewellyn also has a leadership role and represents the care sector on a range of committees, promoting the status of care workers, improving the quality of home care and making sure people are at the centre of all the decisions made about their care.

The ‘WeCareWales’ award was sponsored by the WeCare Wales campaign, who said:

“Care workers are often unsung heroes, so we’re thrilled to be able to support the Accolades awards and celebrate the hard-working people who dedicate their time to helping others.”

This year’s ceremony at Royal College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, which was hosted by broadcaster Garry Owen and Social Care Wales’s Chief Executive Sue Evans, saw seven winners presented their awards.

Sue Evans said:

“It was a privilege to host the Accolades awards ceremony and to be among so many who truly make a difference to the lives of the people of Wales.

“Congratulations to all our deserving winners. We’re very fortunate to have so many committed and hard-working people supporting our communities.”
