A DANCE company is taking over Central Park for their first live event since lockdown.

Motion Control Dance, a Barry-based dance studio and charity which has received more than £3,000 through Newsquest’s Cash for Charities drive, is preparing for their first post-lockdown performance this Saturday (April 23)

The community event – focused on climate change and sustainability – will include a silent protest march, stalls, and a dance show with 19 pieces by Motion Control dancers.

Barry And District News:

“After we came back from lockdown, I spoke with our older dancers to make plans and empower them” said CEO Emma Mallam.

“The green focus was their idea as it’s relevant to everyone and they mentioned the march because they’d seen this as part of Black Lives Matter.

“It’s just grown from there – the overall theme is climate change and sustainability, but each piece has its own theme.

“I’m a bit anxious about it. It’s the first time they’ve performed live since Covid, but it should be really nice.

“We’re looking forward to get together – we did an online performance, but it’s not the same.”

The march will be at 1pm on April 23, with the dances – which will include various group of all ages from the Motional Control Dance - from 1.30pm on the big day.

Barry And District News:

There will also be a few stalls at the event including Guista the turtle – an artistic installation to show children what animals are digesting.

Zero waste shop, Awesome Wales, will also be part of the festivities and there's more in the pipeline - awaiting confirmation.

This event is funded by Art Council Wales and GVS (Glamorgan Voluntary Service) have helped fund the rehearsals and the dance show.
