GLAMORGAN Music School has been voted the best performing arts and music school in Wales.

The award-winning music school, which is based in Barry but teaches music throughout the Vale of Glamorgan, launched in 2020 - one week before the first national lockdown.

Despite this challenging start, with the music school forced to adapt and operate digitally due to the Covid pandemic, Glamorgan Music School won ‘best performing arts and music school’ at the Welsh Business Awards 2022.

Caroline Venter, who set-up the school along with Kathryn Kuczynski, said: “We were music teachers in Cardiff and felt we could do more in the Vale of Glamorgan.

“So, we broke away and formed Glamorgan Music School – then Covid hit and we had to go online.”

Glamorgan Music School works with schools in the Vale of Glamorgan, has groups and ensembles, and offers full classes.

It is registered with Trinity College London so people can get qualifications in music, and has a “great” relationship with Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.

Barry And District News:

The organisation works with more than 50 per cent of schools in the Vale of Glamorgan, including nine schools in Barry, and often hosts concerts at Barry Memo – with an upcoming one this Thursday (April 7).

“It should be a lovely evening,” added Ms Venter.

“It’s a chance to show how brilliant the kids are after they have worked so hard.”

This is the second consecutive year that Glamorgan Music School has won ‘best performing arts and music school’ at the Welsh Business Awards. This year the organisation triumphed over Studio 54, in Blackwood, which was a runner up in this category.

“We were blown away and couldn't quite believe it,” said Ms Ventrer.

“We are very surprised, but so grateful – our staff are so dedicated and to know that what we do matters is appreciated.

“It’s lovely to be recognised and we are so lucky to have such dedicated students; the support we have from them and their families is brilliant.”

Glamorgan Music School also won ‘business of the year’ in Bro Radio’s 2021 Community Awards.
