Youth club

A new youth club for 12 to 16-year-olds in Barry is starting soon.

The Reservoir Youth Club is based in the town’s rugby club, with the first session running from 6.30-8pm on Wednesday, February 9.

The club, which will run weekly, is a joint project between Barry RFC, the Cardiff Blues Community Foundation and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Wales.

Anyone interested in joining should e-mail Reservoir Youth leader Ben McCarthy on ben.mccarthy@cardiffrugby.wales

“Barry RFC is a community club and we want to open our doors to help and support children and young people in our community,” said club director Jon Venners.

“You don’t have to be a rugby club member to be part of the Reservoir Youth club, all are welcome.”

Questions about younger age groups can also be directed to Ben McCarthy. The club will consider the possibility of expansion if there is sufficient interest.

Rugby camp

Cardiff Rugby are running a series of one-day half-term rugby camps, with Barry RFC hosting one on Friday, February 25.

The camps are designed for children aged six to 14, run from 9am to 4pm, and cost £25 per child.

The camps provide an opportunity to improve individual and team skills directly linked to age-appropriate pathway laws.

All attendees will be split into groups according to age, size and ability.

There is a girls-only camp at St Peter’s RFC, Cardiff, on Thursday, February 24.
