LOCAL artists have helped to transform an empty shop front in Barry.

Five young artists from the Barry area have worked alongside professional graffiti artists to transform the shop - and two others – on Holton Road in Barry as part of a plan to redevelop areas and transform unused buildings.

The artists were also given workshops at the Hurts So Good unit at Windmill Park Industrial Estate.

The project was funded by the Welsh Government’s transforming towns programme and was delivered in partnership with the Vale of Glamorgan Council, and they have similar events planned.

Alongside the artwork on the shops, there have also been new planters and banners installed around Barry’s shopping streets and there have been Barry-themed cycle racks installed around the town centre.

Cllr Lis Burnett said: “The artistic works carried out on Holton Road are part of a large-scale programme to improve town centres throughout Wales and is another example of our commitment to creating a pleasant shopping experience here in the Vale.

“The aim is to provide a safer and more welcoming environment for visitors, shoppers and workers within our town centres.

“I hope these works, along with others, will help to make a real difference to local residents as well as shoppers.”
