YOUNG local artists have helped to transform an empty shop front in Barry.

Five young artists worked along with professional graffiti artists to transform the shop front, on Holton Road, and participate in workshops at the Hurts So Good unit in Windmill Park Industrial Estate.

This is the third shop front on Holton Road to be given a facelift in a project funded by the Welsh Government Towns programme and delivered in partnership with Vale of Glamorgan Council who organised the project.

The programme aims to redevelop areas by improving the appearance of properties and developing underused or empty buildings.

New planters and banners have also been introduced to streets in Barry, with Barry-themed cycle racks installed around the town centre.

Cllr Lis Burnett said: “The artistic works carried out on Holton Road are part of a large-scale programme to improve town centres throughout Wales and is another example of our commitment to creating a pleasant shopping experience here in the Vale.

“The aim is to provide a safer and more welcoming environment for visitors, shoppers and workers within our town centres.

“I hope these works, along with others, will help to make a real difference to local residents as well as shoppers.”
