A BARRY pupil has been selected to join the Royal Yachting Association’s Welsh Youths Sailing Squad.

Efa Thomas, a Year Nine pupil at Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg, was first introduced to sailing when she attended a summer sailing course while in Year Five.

Since then, her interest and dedication has continued, and she is now a member of Cardiff Bay’s Sailing Club.

Her sail is ‘Topper Sailing’ and she has been racing consistently in order to gain her place in the Welsh squad for under 18-year-olds.

Training with the Welsh squad takes place in North, South and West Wales.

Sailors are encouraged to attend Welsh events, class ranking events, squad indicator events and International events. They will be offered event support by RYA Cymru Wales coaches at Welsh and class ranking events.
