PEOPLE in Barry are being asked for their views on a new ‘transport interchange’ for Barry Docks railway station.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council have developed plans to turn the area into a transport interchange, which would see enhanced access to the railway station and a bus and taxi interchange.

The consultation is in place for residents to give their views on the proposals, including demand for the services.

It is hoped that if it goes ahead, the project – which has funding agreed in principle as part of the regional Metro Plus programme – will allow for more passengers and trains at the station from 2023.

Vale council cabinet member for neighbourhood services and transport, Cllr Peter King, said: “The council is seeking the views of the local community on proposals to improve public transport infrastructure around Barry Docks Railway Station.

“Not only will the proposed transport interchange enhance station access, but the proposals also include electric vehicle charging infrastructure, improvements to the existing pedestrian and cycle route to the station from Dock View Road, additional cycle parking and improvements to signage, the existing subway, lighting and seating around the station.

“Our commitment to reducing carbon emissions in the Vale of Glamorgan can only be realised if we invest in greener transport links, such as these.”
