THE number of coronavirus cases in the Vale of Glamorgan increased by 357 over the weekend, official figures show.

A total of 13,724 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid-19 in the Vale of Glamorgan when the UK coronavirus daily dashboard was updated on October 4 (Monday), up from 13,367 on Friday.

Public Health Wales said that cases reported on Mondays will be for a 48-hour period so are likely to be much higher than the usual 24-hour figures.

The rate of infection in the Vale of Glamorgan now stands at 10,144 cases per 100,000 people, lower than the Wales average of 11,512.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 93,311 over the period, to 7,934,936.

Vaccination uptake for the UK has been suspended to allow developers to work on a solution to include 12 to 15-year-olds.

Nearly nine in 10 adults in the Vale of Glamorgan have received two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine, figures reveal.

Public Health Wales data shows 96,846 people aged 18 and over have been given both doses of a vaccine up to September 26 – 86 per cent of the area's adults.

They make up part of the 100,319 people who have been given at least one jab – 89 per cent of the over-18 population.

Figures also show 2,906 16 and 17-year-olds in the Vale of Glamorgan had received a first dose by then – 77 per cent of the age group.

The data on second doses for each age group in the area shows:

16 to 17 – 511 administered (14 per cent)

18 to 29 – 13,649 administered (74 per cent)

30 to 39 – 13,890 administered (77 per cent)

40 to 49 – 15,136 administered (85 per cent)

50 to 54 – 8,753 administered (89 per cent)

55 to 59 – 9,114 administered (91 per cent)

60 to 64 – 8,429 administered (93 per cent)

65 to 69 – 7,511 administered (94 per cent)

70 to 74 – 7,630 administered (96 per cent)

75 to 79 – 5,580 administered (96 per cent)

80 and over – 7,154 administered (96 per cent)

Across Wales, 2.2 million people have had both doses, 85 per cent of the over-16 population, and 2.4 million (91 per cent) have had at least one dose.

The rates have been updated using recently released 2020 mid-year population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.

Vaccinations are being given at 546 locations across Wales, including at 360 GP surgeries, 41 vaccination centres and 35 hospitals.
