A JEALOUS thug who strangled his ex-girlfriend and left with her with bald patches after “ragging” her hair has been jailed.

Steven Rogers, 27, of North Walk, Barry, also kicked, punched, slapped and spat at his former partner during a brutal campaign of domestic abuse.

“He isn’t half the man he thinks he is,” the woman said as her victim impact statement was read out by prosecutor Jenny Yeo.

Cardiff Crown Court how the couple had rekindled their relationship after Rogers was released from prison for affray.

But he soon began to accuse her of having dalliances with other men.

Mrs Yeo said: “The defendant strangled, slapped, punched and kicked her and there was the ragging of her hair and spitting.

“She was left with bald patches in her hair.”

After one cruel assault, the woman was taken to hospital for multiple injuries which included a perforated eardrum.

Rogers pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating and the criminal damage of an iPhone and a Michael Kors bag.

These offences were committed following his release from prison for the affray matter.

The court was told how the defendant has 20 previous convictions for 23 offences.

These include robbery, burglary, breach of a restraining order, dangerous driving, battery, aggravated vehicle taking, harassment and possession of a knife.

David Pinnell, representing Rogers, said his client’s behaviour was “inexcusable”.

He added: “This was offending borne out of jealousy.”

The judge, Recorder Aidan Eardley, told the defendant: “In February 2021, you became aggressive, jealous and suspicious of her.

“Your behaviour deteriorated and you became seriously violent towards her.”

He added: “At one point, you threatened to knock her teeth out so other boys wouldn’t come near her.

“You strangled her and she was unable to breathe.”

Rogers was jailed for two years and two months.

He was also made the subject of a five-year restraining order not to contact his victim and pay a surcharge following his release from prison.
