COVID cases in the Vale of Glamorgan have increased by 39 in the last 24 hours, official figures show.

A total of 9,290 people had been confirmed as testing positive for Covid in the Vale of Glamorgan when the UKCovid daily dashboard was updated on August 24, up from 9,251 on Monday.

The rate of infection in the Vale of Glamorgan now stands at 6,867 cases per 100,000 people, lower than the Wales average of 8,397.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 30,619 over the period, to 6,555,200.

However, there were no new Covid deaths recorded in the latest weekly period in the Vale of Glamorgan.

The dashboard shows 327 people had died in the area by August 13, which was unchanged from the week before.

They were among 7,947 deaths recorded across Wales.

The figures include anyone whose death certificate, registered in the week ending August 13, mentioned Covid as one of the causes.

Deaths in Wales are recorded by registration date, and are allocated to the deceased's usual area of residence.
