ROAD works in Barry have been postponed so as not to affect tourists coming to Barry.

Barry Bus customers were alerted to route changes as a result of essential Gas works taking place in Park Crescent, Barry. But now the Vale of Glamorgan council have postponed the plans.

Peter King, Cabinet Member for neighbourhood Services and Transport, said: "The proposed closure of Park Crescent in one direction to allow essential gas main works to be carried out has been delayed until later in the year.

"Essential works will always cause some disruption and there is no perfect time to undertake them. However, with Barry Island expected to welcome huge numbers of visitors this summer, we have taken the decision to make easy access to and from the resort a priority whilst at the same time ensuring that disruption for local businesses is kept to a minimum.

"The council would like to thank Wales and West Utilities for their flexibility.

"Local residents and businesses will receive more information about any future road closure directly once a new date has been agreed."
