AS PART of National Bike Week there will be drop-in minor repair and safety check sessions.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is hosting two drop-in sessions – one in Barry and one in Penarth – as part of their commitment to be encourage eco friendly behaviour and ensure health and wellbeing for residents.

Cyclists can bring their bikes to Cosmeston Country Park between 10am and 1pm on Wednesday (June 1), or to Barry Island between 2pm and 5pm, for the free service carried out by DR Bike.

Vale of Glamorgan Council Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services and Transport, Cllr Peter King, said: “Bike Week is a great opportunity to dust off that old bike and take it out for a spin.

“There are a range of activities available for people to enjoy over the seven days.

“Cycling is not only beneficial for physical and mental health, it is also good for the planet.

“As a Council, we are committed to lowering carbon emissions over the coming years and swapping your car for a bike when taking certain trips is a simple way to achieve that.”

Studies suggest people who cycle regularly in adulthood enjoy a level of fitness equivalent to someone 10 years younger.

There are a range of cycle routes available across the Vale, including networks around Barry, Cowbridge, Dinas Powys, Llantwit Major, Penarth, Rhoose, St Athan, and Sully.

Delivered each year by Cycling UK, Bike Week encourages a quarter of a million people to join in events, rethink their everyday journeys and switch to cycling to get around.
