THREE people have been taked to hospital after a 'serious' crash on a road in Barry, with people advised to avoid the area.

The "serious road traffic accident" happened on Port Road West, between the airport roundabout and Weycock roundabout about 9.15am this morning, Monday, April 12.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 9.17am this morning to reports of a multi-vehicle road traffic collision on Port Road, Rhoose, Barry.

"We attended scene with one rapid response vehicle, three emergency ambulances, the Wales Air Ambulance and our Emergency Medical Transfer and Retrieval Service.

"Three patients were taken by road to University Hospital Wales, Cardiff."

The road has re-opened, with South Wales Police appealing for information.

South Wales Police wrote: "We are appealing for witnesses following a three-vehicle collision which occurred on Port Road West, Rhoose, at approximately 9.15am today (Monday, April 12).

"The collision involved a red Vauxhall Astra, a black Audi A3 and a grey Ford Focus.

"Two people – the drivers of the Audi and the Ford Focus – were taken to the University Hospital of Wales with serious injuries.

"The road was closed for several hours to allow for the investigate work to be carried out. Motorists are thanked for their patience and cooperation during this time.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision, or the manner in which any of the vehicles were being driven in the moments prior to it, is asked to contact police, quoting occurrence 2100125924."
