BARRY has a higher driving test pass rate than the UK average according to the latest data.

With driving lessons and tests set to resume in Wales and England later this month demand is expected to 'sky rocket' - but how does Barry's pass rate compare with the UK?

Barry’s average pass rate for practical tests, according to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency's (DVSA) latest data, is 64.2 per cent – this is nearly 10 per cent higher than the previous average pass rate of 55.3 per cent in Barry.

The latest Barry data reflects the July 2020 to December 2020, with the previous Barry data (55.3 per cent average) reflecting April 2019 to March 2020.

The latest average pass rate for male drivers in Barry is just over 10 per cent higher than the female rate: 70.1 per cent for the former and 60.3 per cent for the latter.

This data accounts for practical driving tests, but does not include theory test results data.

Comparatively the UK-wide pass rate currently stands at an average of 52.5 per cent for males and 47.1 per cent for females.

The UK average pass rate for both sexes is 49.8 per cent. This means overall Barry’s current pass rate - 64.2 per cent - is above the national average for the UK by nearly 15 per cent.

OTHER NEWS:

The current UK-wide data is based on 217,031 passes out of 436,044 tests conducted across the UK for 2020/2021.

Normally the data is based on more than one million tests taken annually in the UK, with pass rates ranging from the 600,000s to the 800,000s.

These figures are lower than previous years, due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting lockdowns.

The DVSA have confirmed that driving lessons in Wales and England will resume on April 12; driving tests will resume on April 22.
