How are the top 50 determined?

Following an unannounced mystery dining visit, shops and mobile units were marked on more than 40 aspects of their business. This included: quality of food, customer service, social media presence, and their coronavirus safety measures.

Food is the main focus; all outlets are assessed on the flakiness of the fish, crispness of chips, crunch of batter, and value for money.

The benchmark to pass was set at 97 per cent for takeaways - this is the highest in the awards' history.
