BARRY’S mass vaccination centre is currently in the process of giving the first dose of the vaccine to people aged 60 to 65 and those with underlying health conditions.

The mass vaccination centre – which is one of three covered by Cardiff and Vale University Health board, along with one in Splott and one in Pentwyn – is open 12 hours a day, seven days a week.

The health board has also announced an additional mass vaccination centre, due to open towards the end of March.

One Barry resident who had his first dose of the vaccine this week is Bob Roberts, who was talked through the process, given his jab, then invited to ask any questions he may have.

After receiving his first dose of the coronavirus vaccination Mr Roberts said: “I feel alright and very pleased to have had my first dose.

“It’s very good to see people – including the military – come together to help during this national crisis. Thank you to all involved.

“It was extremely professional today. My letter arrived and I came, parked up, and was greeted with a nice welcome.

“The way the centre is set out is socially distanced, which will put people’s mind at ease.

“I registered, was given information and asked if I had any questions – but not spoken to in a condescending way.

“If anyone’s confused or worried or has concerns they will answer your questions straight away.”

Norman Wales is another member of the public who received his first dose of the coronavirus vaccine this week - he seemed pleasantly surprised by the ease of the process.

Speaking after his first dose of the vaccine, Mr Wales said: “I was expecting a bigger wait but it’s all very efficient.

“I was taken straight through and I feel fine – thank you to the volunteers.”

People are reminded that when attending the mass vaccination centre – when invited to do so – there is no need to arrive more than five minutes beforehand, as there are not long waits at the Barry centre.
