A BARRY school has not let the coronavirus pandemic stop them celebrating St David's Day.

Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg, on Colcot Road, has traditionally celebrated the patron saint of Wales - St David - on March 1 and 2021 was no exception.

The youngest children, who have now returned to school, dressed in the traditional Welsh costume and tasted some Welsh traditional food - including Welsh cakes - in order to celebrate together.

Older pupils are still working remotely from home, but a special assembly was arranged for them by the Welsh-medium school.

Numerous unique messages from Welsh celebrities were received to celebrate the Welsh ethos and to share their own pride of their ability to speak Welsh.

Messages were received from all over the world by stars - including Matthew Rhys, Yws Gwynedd, Gethin Jones and Jason Mohammad.

Celebrities from the performing and acting scene, music, sport, presenting, and journalism all gathered together with each and every one highlighting the importance of celebrating and taking advantage of our ability to speak the Welsh language.

This emphasised the already strong Welsh ethos at Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg, with pupils enjoying a full day of celebrations.
