A VALE Plus user is taking part in 'move more in March' to raise funds for the organisation.

Vale Plus, based in Barry and Llantwit Major, provides training and opportunities for adults with additional learning needs - during the coronavirus pandemic Vale Plus has been forced to close its chapel, charity shop, and café which has reduced their income.

To combat this Vale Plus is encouraging people - including service users - to take part in the ‘move more in March’ challenge, earning sponsorship through exercising half an hour a day throughout the month.

Mel Parsons' son Kiaran, from Barry, is one of the service users taking on the fundraising challenge and said: “I feel very good to be taking part.

“I’m excited and looking forward to it.

"I’m missing seeing my friends but they’ve done the Zooms really well.”

Due to coronavirus regulations Vale Plus has gone virtual to ensure adults with additional learning needs are still catered to, with online sessions available and activity packs distributed.

Kiaran's mother, Mel Parsons, added: “It’s not the same as him seeing his friend but we both really appreciate what Vale Plus does.

“The support they've given us is amazing.”

Chief Executive of Vale Plus, Mark Mitchell, said: "We are 100 per cent virtual nowadays, but hopefully one day we will edge back to what it was like before.

"The idea of 'move more for March' came from a staff member after talking to users.

"Physical activity is important and we thought this would encourage people to do daily exercise, while raising funds for Vale Plus.

"A number of service users are taking part."

All are welcome to get involved with 'move more for March' to raise funds for Vale Plus.

It is £5 entry with people encouraged to raise as much as possible through sponsorship.
