THE coronavirus pandemic has affected many aspects of life, including an impact on blood donations.

Currently only three per cent of the population donate blood. The blood service needs to collect 350 units every day to supply the 19 hospitals in Wales.

Did you know that one blood donation could save three people or six premature babies?

The Welsh Blood Service cannot accommodate walk-ins at the moment so appointments must be made.

People can donate blood at Barry’s Memo Arts Centre - by appointment only – on the following days:

• March 10 (Wednesday)

• March 11 (Thursday)

• March 12 (Friday)

• March 26 (Friday)

• March 29 (Monday)

• March 30 (Tuesday)

Blood donation appointments – within a 15 mile radius – are also available at Copthorne Hotel, Roath, Llanrumney, WBS Clinic at Wound Centre, Hawthorn Leisure Centre, University of South Wales (Glamorgan campus) and Bridgend.

It’s recommended people stay as local as possible, but donating blood is deemed essential travel by Welsh Government.
