A POWER outage caused delays in Cardiff and the Vale’s three mass vaccination centres earlier today.

Cardiff and the Vale University Health Board shared an urgent message, which said: “Due to a national IT outage we are experiencing problems with the systems at our Mass Vaccination Centres which is unfortunately resulting in queues as we process our patients.

“We are trying to get people through as quickly as possible so please bear with us.”

There is currently one mass vaccination centre in the Vale, which opened at a leisure centre in Barry three days ago (on Monday, February 8), along with two in Cardiff - Splott and Pentwyn.

NHS Wales Informatics Service has confirmed the issue has now been resolved.

They said: "Following some routine maintenance to the Welsh Immunisation System overnight, we received reports of performance issues affecting the system at 9.20am this morning.

"Our technical team investigated and resolved the issue as a matter of urgency and the system is now operating as normal.

"Performance disruption to the system lasted for approximately one hour. Patients are continuing to receive COVID-19 vaccinations across Wales."

The coronavirus vaccines are also being distributed in GPs across Cardiff and the Vale, with Barry Masonic Hall also being used in the vaccination effort.

The health board is "on track" to give the first dose of the vaccination to the first four priority groups by the end of this week - those who fall into those groups and wish to have the vaccination but have not been contacted are asked to get in touch.
