A HEALTH board has offered some clarity on plans for Barry's mass vaccination centre.

Cardiff and Vale University Health Board previously said there would be a mass vaccination centre in Barry, but when Welsh Government published a map of vaccination centres across Wales it appeared that Barry was not included - this is not the case.

Barry will eventually have a mass vaccination centre, as planned, according to the health board.

A spokesperson for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: “We have a robust plan in place for mass vaccination across the Vale of Glamorgan as part of our roll out of the COVID 19 vaccination programme for Cardiff and the Vale.

“We are currently working closely with our partners to vaccinate the top four priority groups in the first instance.

“It has always been the intention to have a mass vaccination site in the Vale of Glamorgan and a lease for Holm View was signed on January 4 with this specific purpose in mind.”

Holm View Leisure Centre was identified by them as one of three mass vaccination centres across Cardiff and the Vale last month.

“Each centre will support the roll out of the COVID 19 vaccination programme,” added the spokesperson.

“Our operational plan remains unchanged and as the vaccine supply increases, we will expand capacity and work towards all sites being fully operational to achieve our target of vaccinating as many eligible people in our communities as quickly and as safely as possible."

The health board confirmed that they will update on "firm" dates as the vaccination programme progresses.

The spokesperson added: “Residents in the Vale of Glamorgan who fall into the over 80s age group can currently access Covid-19 vaccines via GP practices who will invite them to an appointment, while care home residents and staff are being vaccinated via our mobile vaccination teams.

“We are currently prioritising frontline health and social care staff through one site in Cardiff alongside two satellite clinics for staff which have been introduced at UHW and UHL.

"We are constantly reviewing our capacity in line with vaccination delivery and will mobilise new centres identified within our plan as they are needed.”
