A SECONDARY school governor from Barry has been awarded a British Empire Medal in the Queen's birthday honours list.
Antonia Forte, of Barry, was nominated for her services to education, housing and the community in Barry.
Ms Forte, 67, has been a governor in Whitmore High School, formerly Barry Comprehensive, for eight years.
Before her retirement she was chief of the Cynon Taf Community Housing Group, a member of Community Housing Cymru, and she is a trustee of the Memo Arts Centre in Barry.

Before covid-19. she helped out, as a volunteer, at Romilly Primary School - assisting Year 4 pupils with their reading.
She said: "I got the original email in June.
"I thought it was a scam and was going to get rid of it, but my husband (Michael Anderson) said: "I'm not sure it's a scam."
"I really enjoy what I am doing," she said. "I feel incredibly proud and particularly proud because it's really to do with Barry which I'm really passionate about."
