THE Romilly Primary School barn has had a revamp thanks to a local housing development at Porthkerry Road.

Newydd Housing Association, alongside Sterling UK Construction Ltd, are supporting the parent-teacher Association at Romilly Primary School, in Barry, by donating to their fundraising campaign for new flooring.

The Dutch barn is currently in a bad state of repair from years of poor maintenance and little refurbishment.

It is largely used as a facility for physical education and can also be hired in the evenings and weekends to local sports clubs needing an indoor training area.

Site manager at Sterling Construction, Brian Williams said: “Sterling Construction is delighted to help Romilly Primary School with the funding of new flooring for their barn as it is an important space for the community.”

Team coordinator for Newydd’s community regeneration team, Shannon Maidment said: “We’re pleased to be able to support this project that contributes to the wellbeing goals set out in the Future Generations Act.

"This Act aims for a healthier Wales, a more equal Wales, and a Wales of cohesive communities.

"Furthermore, there are several benefits in promoting physical activity in children, and the regeneration of this barn maximises the opportunity to do so specifically in winter months when outdoor activity cannot be utilised.”

Sterling Construction is currently developing a scheme at Porthkerry Road on behalf of Newydd.

The development, in partnership with the Welsh Government and Vale of Glamorgan Council, will provide eight one and two bedroom flats for affordable rent in Barry.

Work on the site includes internal conversion to flats and extensive external works to the rear of the property.
