A Vale of Glamorgan Council spokesman said: "The council is aware that a number of vehicles are occupying land at the council’s Docks Office car park in Barry.

"The police have been informed and a welfare assessment carried out to establish the group’s needs.

“We will be providing for these by supplying water and refuse bags.

"At this time, the council is following the Welsh Government’s current guidance, which takes covid-19 into account in managing the encampment."

Part three of the Housing (Wales) Act 2014 (the Act) requires that a local housing authority should carry out a new assessment of the accommodation needs of gypsies and travellers residing in or resorting to its area.
