A VALE of Glamorgan GP who pleaded guilty to being twice the drink-drive limit has been banned from driving for 18 months and fined £1,000.

Dr Angharad Cox, 47, admitted having 70 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath while driving a Honda Jazz car on Penarth’s Cogan Hill on May 11.

The legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

She is a partner at the Dinas Powys Medical Centre.

Cox, of Church Road, was also ordered to pay a £100 surcharge and £85 costs at Cardiff Magistrates' Court.

A spokesperson for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: “The health board is fully aware of Dr Angharad Cox’s arrest and conviction.

"We can confirm Dr Cox is a GP partner at Dinas Powys Medical Centre and not an employee of the health board.

"We are working closely with Dr Cox and the senior partner at the practice throughout this period to provide support where necessary and appropriate.”
