A MUM-OF-THREE has joined forces with her mother-in-law to launch a family-run hair and beauty salon in Thompson Street, Barry.

Samantha Morgan, 33, and Lynne Berg, 53, of Barry, have teamed up to welcome clients to the Allure Hair & Beauty Salon which they hope will be like the movie Steel Magnolia’s which, set in a salon world, illustrates friendship and bonding.

Salon co-owner, Mrs Morgan is a former Cardiff & Vale College, Barry campus student spent two weeks training in Barcelona in April last year where she learnt skills and techniques from world-renowned and leading long-hair stylist, Patrick Cameron and US hair artist, Guy Tang.

Mrs Morgan, a former carer and still a Barry Morrisons shopworker, and the team will initially offer hair and beauty services before, when covid-19 restrictions allow, offering opportunities for pamper parties, ‘Hen’ groups, and bridal packages.

Former Bryn Hafren pupil, Mrs Morgan said: “I was going to be starting here, but then covid started.

“The previous owner said they couldn’t carry on.

“I got in contact with the landlord. It was all last minute and we’re here now.

“I’ve always wanted to have my own business – that’s always been my goal and it was my five-year plan.

In three year’s time I was going to start my own salon.

“It just landed in my lap really.

“It’s going to be for everyone.

“My hair stylist is a fully qualified barber as well.

“We’ve gone with Goldwell.

“I think we’re the only one in Barry - it’s the hair products.

“The majority have got Matrix. Barry campus used to be Matrix, but it went to Goldwell.

“It’s a really good, high-end product.

“They spend millions and millions on it just to perfect.

“It’s to repair your hair.

“It’s a really good product.”

She added: “I trained in Barcelona. It was an all expenses trip that only four people were picked out of the whole of the colleges in April 2019.

“It had Patrick Cameron and Guy Tang. It was massive, huge - so good and educational – just to see other parts of the world and how to do hair especially when you’ve got humid conditions.

“I just up we can grow and be successful and offer everything we can.”

Mrs Berg, who is also a business advisor, said: “We were just really lucky because everything was here in terms of tools and equipment and things like that.

“We’ve completely gutted it.

“It’s completely different to how it was, but we were really lucky with everything being here.

“It was too good to turn away.

“Your nails, your beauty is a luxury thing. Hair is essential – when your hair’s not right it does bring you down.

“Come and say ‘Hi’ – some salons you feel intimidated, but we want you to feel comfortable.

“The - film Steel Magnolias - that’s what we are going to be.

“We are the Steel Magnolias of Barry.

“It means it’s safe, friendly, no judgement, confidential, and just a nice environment.”
