All Saints C/W primary school pupil Sofia Zeraschi, nine, presented the duchess of Cambridge with a bouquet of flowers while her brother Lorenzo.

Mum, Rachel Zeraschi, of Barry, said: “We had a lovely chat about play and lockdown home-schooling.

“The duchess is a supporter of educating children outdoors as I am.

“The children told them all about their adventures over lockdown.

“Lorenzo told the duchess that she had extra time out of school as he was in Vietnam ahead of UK lockdown and school wouldn’t allow him back.

She added: “What was very special was that Mauro (Zeraschi) and Abbie were there for the day with Luca and Mila nearby.

“They didn’t come in to meet and greet.

“But instead of leaving them out, Nino and Mariana (Zeraschi) explained and the duchess and prince waved at them – a really special moment.”

Their Royal Highnesses heard from local business owners about the impact of covid-19 on the tourism sector.

The couple then visited the beach huts on the eastern end of the promenade and talked to staff from Bay 5, on Barry Island's promenade.
