THE Vale of Glamorgan Council has cancelled this summer’s Barry Island Weekenders events programme for safety reasons in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
All events scheduled from now until the end of October have been cancelled or postponed in accordance with Welsh Government restrictions on public gatherings designed to control the spread of the virus.

Vale council, deputy leader and cabinet member for education and regeneration, Cllr Lis Burnett said: “Each year we look forward to bringing diverse and exciting events to Barry Island, but the health and safety of our audience, staff and performers is always our top priority.
"Staging events over the coming months is simply not safe as it would increase the risk of spreading the virus.
“We are disappointed to announce the cancellation of our hugely popular events programme, however there is no other option given the strict rules around social gathering we must all observe.
“I’d like to thank residents and visitors for their support of the Barry Island Weekenders series, which attracts thousands of visitors each year.
"We look forward to bringing you an exciting programme in the future, when it’s safe to do so.”
