TV presenter and naturalist Iolo Williams has slammed litterers for leaving plastic bottles and bags along the Montgomery Canal.

The BBC Springwatch star was angered to see the amount of rubbish after going for a run near his Llandyssil home along the picturesque canal, much of which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

His angry video message on Twitter has been viewed more than 100,000 times.

In it, he said: “It’s a lovely evening here in mid Wales so I thought I’d go for a run along the Montgomery Canal as I do as often as I can.

“And what did I find? Well, I’ll tell you what, you can tell lockdown is coming to an end. Look at this - plastic bottle, plastic bag, plastic sweet wrappers everywhere. This is just half of it. The other half I’ve put in the bin at the far end.

“This is not acceptable. For those of you who are hard of understanding – take your litter home. This really gets my goat. Once more, take you litter home”.

There have been cases of littering at beauty spots and public spaces during the warm spell of weather which coincided with an easing of coronavirus restrictions.

Iolo is currently filming the popular wildlife show live from his home near Abermule.
