Starbucks will be based opposite the Morrisons store.

In early 2007, 13 years ago, Starbucks told the Barry & District News it had no plans to establish a store in Barry.

A Starbucks spokeswoman said: “We look forward to opening our doors to customers in Barry in the near future.”

Barry Town Council objected to the scheme, but Vale council planners approved the proposal.

Vale and Barry Town Council Castleland ward councillor, Millie Collins said: “I'm concerned about the litter it will generate, the effect on the area.

“I am also concerned about the effect Starbucks will have on the cafe's in the town centre which will be struggling when they are eventually allowed to reopen.”

The first Starbucks, known as the original, coffee house was based in 2000 Western Avenue, in Seattle, Washington, USA, from 1971 to 1976.

This cafe later moved to its present location in 1912 Pike Place.

It is both a working business and tourist attraction.

The nearest Starbucks to Barry is currently in Cardiff.
