A Barry Coastguard spokesman said: “The team separated to various parts of our patch to try and get eyes on the vessel.
“Talking to fishermen at Rhoose, the vessel had seemed to be drifting with engine trouble, but managed to start and was making its way towards Barry.
“Our team caught up with craft at Barry old harbour, which the owner from Barry informed us he had just bought the boat from Weston-super-mare earlier in the day and had travelled across the channel.
“After the boat was secured by owner and safety advice given, by coastguard our team stood down.”
