ALISON Steadman, the actor famous for playing Pam Shipman in Gavin and Stacey, has admitted she would rather to be locked down in Barry Island than her home in London.

Speaking to Capital South Wales’ Josh & Kally this afternoon (May 21), she revealed she fell in love with the area while filming the now legendary programme.

“… that sand on that beach in Barry in so wonderful.

"I’ve been around the world and been on a few beaches, and honestly I would say that that sand is the best.”

The duo – who present Capital’s 4pm to 7pm slot – asked, if given the choice, whether she would rather be in lockdown at her home in London or Barry Island:

“I think Barry beachfront has got it for me.

"Especially now that the sun is shining”

But when questioned about how she thinks her character, Pam Shipman, would react to the pandemic, she said: "I don’t think Pam would be coping with lockdown at all.

"She loved to see people.

"Most meet friends, see the kids, go to Wales, see the grandchildren...

“I just think she’d be freaking out now!”

On Wednesday, May 20, co-star, Larry Lamb, who plays her onscreen husband, Mick, hinted, “sooner or later there will be more” to come from the show following the 2019 Christmas special that left fans with a cliff-hanger.

Responding, Alison he said to Capital South Wales, “… before the 2019 Christmas Special came along, I was convinced it would never happen.

"But then I had the call from Ruth Jones.

"I honestly nearly fell off my chair.

“So, who knows what might happen”?

The actress is hosting an online Gavin & Stacey quiz to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care this evening at 8.15pm, promising there will be a few unannounced surprises.
