FOUR former Barry Comprehensive School pupils are embracing a virtual charity challenge which will see them travel from their former school to Prague.

Students, Harry Morgan, 20, of St. Athan, Ben Rose and Adam Webb, both 21 of Barry, and Robert Boyt, 21, a Royal Marine commando, are making the journey to the Czech Republic capital in aid of the Velindre Cancer Care Centre.

The friends, who met in Barry Comprehensive School, will run, walk, and cycle the 1528km distance required to reach their destination before the end of May.

Mr Morgan said: “We have been on holiday to places before as a group; however, we have never been to Prague.

“Prague was to be our next destination as a group of mates.

“We were planning to go away to Prague this summer, but due to the coronavirus outbreak, these plans were put on hold.

“This spurred us on to start a challenge.

“Through other efforts of celebrities to raise money, we wanted to raise some money for a place which has touched all of our lives.

“We thought this would be a better use of our time than being stuck in doing nothing during the lockdown.

“We have all had family members who have suffered with cancer and we wanted to attempt to raise money for a cancer charity local to us.”

Their idea emerged during their weekly online quiz.

“We are all quite active people as we have played rugby together growing up but in terms of training for the challenge – we did not prepare, we just woke and began running, walking, and cycling,” Mr Morgan said.

“The challenge entails walking, running and cycling the equivalent distance from Barry Comprehensive School to Prague.

“We are enjoying the challenge; however, our bodies are aching all over.

“We are limiting our days off as we are trying to reach our target as soon as possible.

“Our legs are extremely sore and our feet have a lots of blisters, however, we stay motivated by remembering who we are raising money for.”

He added: “Our aim is to raise as much money as we can for the Velindre Cancer Centre.

“This place has done amazing things for people who have cancer and contributes to research.

“For me personally, they have treated my mum, supported her and allowed her to fully recover from breast cancer.

“I am extremely grateful for them and all their hard work.

“Our aim is to raise money for such a special place.”

“Our current target is £2000.

“Once we have reached that target, we will increase the amount we hope to raise.

“We have currently travelled 655.07 km.

“We are just under halfway there.

"In theory, this puts us halfway through Belgium.

“Any support or donations would be greatly appreciated, and we hope to raise the most amount of money that we can.”
