A SOUTH Indian restaurant has become the first Barry-based business to introduce a Vegan takeaway service.

Tiffin Rasoi, which has been based in Holton Road for 11 years this month (March), has embraced the increasingly-popular food lifestyle and hopes its extensive menu will appeal to vegans, vegetarians and committed meat-eaters who want to expand their culinary repertoire.

The business employs two delivery drivers and has six premises staff.

Tiffin Rasoi’s name is inspired by ‘dabbawalas’ the tiffin tin carriers who use Mumbai’s famed local railway to deliver home cooked meals across the city.

Tiffin Rasoi owner, Motiur Rahman said: “For the last year we’ve been hearing in the news about Veganism so the demand is there – that’s why we thought of doing it – there was a gap in the market we could fill.

“Some of the big chains have a small amount of choices, but I wanted to do something with variety – main courses and sides – a full menu.

“Most of our customers are raving about it and thank me for doing it.

Mr Rahman said the jackfruit options would appeal to meat-eaters.

“I recommend the mango subzi masala and I had the jackfruit jalfrezi – that’s nice, but I think all of my meals are tasty.”

The restaurant/takeaway is open from 5pm to 11pm, seven days a week.
