ST Richard Gwyn RC school, in Barry, has closed today (Friday, February 28) due to fears over flooding.

Pupils left in the early afternoon as heavy rain continued to blight the area.

Telephone callers were greet with a recorded message from the school saying: "Due to the flood risk we have made a decision to close the school."

"Pupils would be put on buses at 1.30pm and parents needed to collect their children by 1.40pm.

In November 2016, staff and pupils were evacuated due to flooding in the Coldbrook area.

Police and the Penarth fire crew attended.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council had been undertaking flood prevention works in the Coldbrook Road catchment area.

On July 20, 2007 floods forced three school evacuations.

Pupils were sent home from St Richard Gwyn High School after a stream burst its banks.
