A CADBURY Dairy Milk chocolate bar paying homage to Barry Island has gone on sale in a Barry town centre post office.

King Square post office, in Holton Road, Barry, has introduced the bespoke-named 110g treat into the shop with the idea that it will appeal to chocolate lovers who want to eat it themselves or give it to family and friends as a gift.

Postmaster, Vimal Kabaria said the unique named product was also aimed at proving a fresh way of encouraging people to shop local in the town.

Mr Kabaria said: “It’s just an idea that sort of generated.

“I went to a trade event at a Spring Fair at the NEC a few weeks ago and Cadbury were there and they were showcasing their new products and the chocolate bars with names.

“I was speaking to a representative there and she mentioned that there were other possibilities on what was already provided - and the biggest thing is that it’s all done through Cadbury.

“It’s good quality chocolate at the end of the day.

“I made a suggestion, on the back of the success of Gavin and Stacey, could we do something along the lines of having a Barry Island chocolate bar?

“She went away, she consulted Cadbury and they came back with a design and I was really happy with the design and it went into production and I’ve just had the first delivery.”

He said: “I’m also looking at Welsh chocolate bars.

“If you go into shops it’s not something that’s readily available so we are working on a few other designs to add to this range at the moment and we are going to play it by ear and see how it goes.”

The Barry Island chocolate bars retail at £5,99 each or two for £10 and the name and occasion bars cost £4.99.

“The display is eye-catching,” he said. “It’s more of a novelty gift item as opposed to a standard bar of chocolate.

“With Mother’s Day coming up there will be a Mother’s Day bar.”

He said he was open to name requests and, if there was sufficient demand, it would be something for Cadbury to consider.

“We are trying to encourage people to shop local by trying new ideas,” he added. “Hence the chocolate bars.”

The post office is open Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 5.30pm,
