FROM the Archive this week features a photograph of The Parade, in Barry.

These beautiful Victorian Villas with outstanding views of the South Wales Coast have always been a desirable place to live in the town.

Permission to build houses on The Parade was obtained as early as 1894.

The houses in this early postcard, all have individual names painted on the wooden arch over the front door.

One of the houses known as Jesmond Dene was sold as a leasehold property by auction in 1906 for £520.

The Barry & District News would like to thank Cllr Shirley Hodges for the photograph and information.
