MORE than 30 people joined Barry-born Weatherman Walking presenter, Derek Brockway on a seven-kilometre fundraising stroll on Saturday, December 28.

The BBC Wales weather forecaster and his fellow charity walkers, were raising money for Velindre Cancer Care by walking from Marco’s Café, in Barry Island, to Mrs Marco’s Café, in Porthkerry Country Park.

Mr Brockway said: “We are raising funds for Velindre which is a special charity close to my heart.

“We are raising funds to help vulnerable people, and their families, who have got cancer, are receiving treatment for cancer, or are recovering from cancer.

“It’s a fantastic charity and in May I will be walking the Great Wall of China with about 100 other people.

“It’s quite a tough walk and a tough challenge.

“This (Barry) is like a training walk for me.

“Over 30 people signed up to raise funds.”

He added: “It’s good to be back in Barry.

“I watched Gavin and Stacey on Christmas Day and I’ve brought the weather with me.”
