CHAMPION boxer Lee Selby helped make Barry High Street's Christmas lights switch-on a knockout event on Friday, November 29.

Hundreds of people descended on the shopping district to support the businesses and enjoy the entertainment ahead of the lighting ceremony.

Mr Selby was joined on stage, at 7pm, by his children, Father Christmas and Barry mayor, Cllr Margaret Wilkinson.

The event, organised by members of the High Street Traders Association, is supported by Barry Town Council with assistance from the Vale council and police and police community support officers.

One of the organisers, Chloe Ismail said: "I'd like to say thank you to all the High Street Traders for their support towards myself and Eloise (Harrhy) from West Coast Conveyancing Ltd as it was our first year organising the High Street Light Switch On.

"We were slightly nervous, but we pulled it off, the event ran perfectly.

"Thank you for everyone involved, you were all absolutely fantastic!

"Everyone who performed and entertained the crowd were amazing.

"Thank you to Lee Selby and daughters for switching on the lights, the crowd loved it.

" saw lots of happy faces and the atmosphere was magical, exactly how we planned.

" have heard lots of praise about the event, so let’s get planning next years.

"Bigger and better!"
