FORMER Barry town deputy mayor councillor Anthony Hampton has pleaded not guilty to six counts of indecent assault.

Vale and Barry town councillor, Hampton, 72, of Fforest Drive, Barry, was listed for a plea and trial preparation hearing in Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday, November 26.

Hampton, a former WJEC chairman, is scheduled to stand trial on March 23, 2020, after he denied abusing children in the 1970s, 80s and 90s.

The charges relate to two alleged victims who cannot be identified for legal reasons

The former teacher and Vale council cabinet member for education was arrested in January 2018 and charged with 10 counts of indecent assault in December 2018.

The indictments will be joined for the trial.

The Barry Iltyd ward councillor represented the Conservatives until he was suspended from the party after he was charged by police.

He serves as an independent councillor on the Vale and Barry Town councils.
