PONTYPOOL will attempt to repeat their feat of 2018 by beating Carmarthen Quins in the quarter-finals of the WRU National Cup.

Pooler, semi-finalists last season, beat Swansea in round one of the competition and hammered Cardiff Met on Saturday.

Their reward for the 66-21 win against the students is a home clash with the Quins on the weekend of January 25.

The fixture is a repeat of the last 16 encounter two years ago when Pooler triumphed 23-8 thanks to a penalty try, a score by scrum-half Martin Luckwell and 11 points from the boot of fly-half Matthew Jones.

Leighton Jones' men have secured the top-flight scalps of the Quins, Llanelli, Cardiff, Cross Keys, Bridgend and Swansea in recent seasons and will be keen to add to the list, even if promotion is their priority.

The other Championship side left in the cup, Neath, travel to Premiership champions Merthyr. Holders Cardiff travel to Llanelli while Aberavon entertain Llandovery.
