SALLY Stephenson has been chosen as Lib Dem prospective parliamentary candidate for the Vale of Glamorgan.

The Liberal Democrats have chosen local business owner and anti-Brexit campaigner Ms Stephenson as their candidate for the Vale in the event of a general election.

Ms Stephenson, of Cowbridge, was chosen at a meeting of local Liberal Democrat members on Saturday, September 7.

In May’s European Elections the Liberal Democrats finished in second place in the Vale, beating the Conservatives, Labour and Plaid Cymru.

Ms Stephenson said: “Like many people I am fed up with the mess this country is in.

"From the Climate Crisis to Brexit, a generation of politicians have failed us.

"It’s time the Vale of Glamorgan had a fresh start.

“Stopping Brexit is personal for me.

"I was forced to close one of my shops in Cowbridge and make three members of staff redundant because suppliers put up their costs due to Brexit.

"I’m not willing to stand by while this Government damages businesses, public services and my children’s futures.

“The Liberal Democrats are going from strength to strength.

"From the best ever European Election results, to winning the Brecon and Radnorshire by-election and achieving our highest ever membership.

"I’m ready to fight and win.”

Welsh Liberal Democrat leader Jane Dodds MP said: “Sally Stephenson is a real community champion and a committed campaigner.

"Sally is the strong, passionate voice the Vale of Glamorgan needs in parliament to stop a damaging Brexit and demand better for our country’s future.”
